We're happy to announce the completion of the second issue of Megane Zine. Megane Zine is published regularly and introduces artwork of young and up-coming Japanese artists to the United States. "Megane" means "Glasses" in Japanese and focuses on the inspired achievements of these fantastic artists.
We are proud and excited to exhibit a collection of work featuring the current Megane Zine artists on January 9th, 2010 at the HVW8 Art + Design Gallery in Los Angeles. The artists will be present for the opening of the exhibition. Ed Templeton also participates in the show!!

I wanted to make books which look like a children's book. When you read this, I hope you go back to your childhood.
There are 8 young Japanese artists. Each artists have an original character. I will put these characters on the cover.
Ed Templeton participated in the zine. His character featured on the cover. His character, “The Transistor Sect ”, appear in the zine! We are always supported by him.

Artist : Yusuke Hanai ( Yusule participated in “The Happening NYC” show and “The Greenroom Festival Japan.” He is also a good surfer in Japan. He got a great influence by The Road and The Sky, such as music and surf culture in 60’s to 70’s. (Pages 3-4)

Artist : Anamachy Paintng ( Their works combines painting, advertising and more. Yosuke Kaneko (b. 1976, Japan) are part of the Viwa (Madara-zu) series, GUGAA&MUGAA series. As you can see from these samples, they flourishes in the graphic design sector often creating works for clothing companies, interior design firms, and media outlets as well as exhibiting work in galleries all over Japan. Their work has been used by GQ, Esquire, and in several TV shows. (Pages 6)

Artist : Shinpei Onishi ( Shinpei Onishi(b. 1978, Tottori, Japan) Created the Kanako series. He is also a graphic designner, Illustrator and great artist. (Pages 5)

Artist : Maya Nukumizu ( Maya is a artist born in 1982. After finishing her master’s degree of Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2007, she has been actively creating works. She drew attention to her talent already when she was in the undergraduate degree, winning many awards including the grand prizes of “The 5th ‘21st Century Asian Design Competition’” and “ARTBEAT Kyoto 2005” and had been selected to exhibit at “ART AWARD TOKYO 2007”. Her work is highly received as a new type of Japanese artist whose style can be called as “NEW POP”. In her work, the subject matters such as pop girls, weapons, combat planes are often drawn and they are arranged on the geometrically graphic surface. The girls in her work have the almost extreme femininity such as the rich and long streaming hair, overly long eyelashes, and skin-exposing tightly fitted outfits. They are drawn with weapons and on the fighters as “fighting girls” in the graphical composition of the picture. Many of the “fighting girls” in Japanimation and in Manga are the perverted existence, created by men for themselves. The characters by Nukumizu are, on the contrary, those created by a woman, for women, more positively accepting “the power of woman/femininity”. (Pages 7-8)
Artist : Yu Nagaba ( Yu was born in 1976 in Tokyo. He is a graphics designer, illustrator, and more came up with the idea for the character, “Kaeru-Sensei”, which literally means Teacher Frog. He also created a lot of graphics for clothes, TV show, Web Site and more. (Pages 9-10)
Artist : Ly ( Ly was born in 1981. Ly is an artist, who constructs scenery that characters who appear in her inside world. Weave in chain these scene and is expressing it as painting. When her picture is seen first, you may feel "death and sexual image" on the world. Secondarily, it yearns. It is a yearning for jumping over the contemporary borders. For instance, it the discommunication and the sex or character difference, etc.--that spread to the society. The message concealed from the work can be seen here and there. (Pages 11-12)
Artist : Hidehito Shinno ( Hidehito is a young graphic artist from Aichi, Japan. He learned designing at a school in his home ground Nagoya. His works appeared in Beams T and more. He won the “The Shift 2006 Calendar Competition” award. (Pages 13-14)
Artist : Koichiro Takesue ( He was born in 1974 in Aomori, Japan. He has been living in Tokyo. He won the ENLIGHTENMENT "Awakening Sence" in 2005 - 2006. He exhibited his work in galleries all over Japan. (Pages 15-16)
