As one of the most unique art space situated in Central Hong Kong,
MADHOUSE is dedicated to uplift and promote the Contemporary
Art Scene here in Asia. For Summer 2009, Madhouse is pleased
to exhibit a special art project, "BLOOM" to the HongKong audiences!

People can easily relate “Bloom” with aroma and fragrance. In order
to enhance the beauty of the artworks and to express the exhibition
theme completely, curator Shin Wong had chosen to use“Scents” as
an element to optimize the show. In doing so, Madhouse cordially
invited scent ghost “Azure” to design a special fragrance exclusively
for this art exhibition.

"Bloom" as quoted by the curator, " is usually referred to as describing
the aesthetic experience of one or more flowers on a flowering plant.
For this exhibition, it is a metaphor for young artists at the blooming
peak of their time. The concept of the exhibition is to create a sweet,
sentimental and sophisticated feeling to the viewers who come to the
exhibition. In addition to enhancing these beautiful artworks, "scents"
also play an important role in a space.” This theme well matches with
the vision of Azure to enrich consumerʼs experience through the
stimulation of senses.

The exhibition will be showing brand new artworks by four top emerging
artists from regional Asia. At the same time, the viewers will be able to
experience a specially formulated fragrance by Azure, exclusively for
MADHOUSE. The “Bloom” fragrance has also been made into perfume
candles, which will be available for Art lovers to collect during the
exhibition time – limited editions only.

"Bloom" will be showing in MADHOUSE from 15th of August ~ 5th of September.

ここをくぐればAberdeen市街に到着です！！

I got the map of the 90's Grunge Rock site.

Kurt rented this house by himself. But it could not wait us.
Kurtが初めて借りたアパートは、無惨にも砂地となっていた。。。今年５月に取り壊されたらしい。

ここで、彼は「Something in the way」を思いついたらしい。
「from the muddy banks of the wishkah」はここを意味する。

Kurt got the first guitar in his life at this store.
僕が初めて買ったギターはFender Japanのジャガー、お茶の水の下倉楽器だった気がする。

町のあちこちに彼の写真や絵がある。

映画「about a son」では濁っていて、しけったイメージしか汲み取れなかったが、ここAberdeenはとても澄んでいて爽やかな風が通る場所だった。
グランジ・ムーブメントとは、本当はそんなにネガティブでは無いことを、あえてネガティブに表現した音楽とファッションの流行だったと昔に知り合いと話たことがあった。僕は日本におけるグランジしか分からないが、果たして、Kurtとはどういう人だったのだろうか。
ただただ、ここは田舎で人も良くて、ノーフューチャーにはかわりは無い。

初めて見た！Zine専門のライブラリー！！Meganeも借りれます。

I got to Olympia. There is the most important Grunge area!

Kurt had lived in this apartment with a girl friend, Tracy. But, I am not sure about a girl.
記憶が正しければ、KurtはTracyという女の子とここで同棲していたらしい。「about a girl」の子だと思う。

They used to shoot a sign, Washington Lottery, by a BB gun from a window. But, I am not sure it's true or not.
そして、この２Fの窓から見える向いの「Washington Lottery」の看板をBB弾で打ってたらしい。確かな情報ではないけどね。

K Records!! But, nobody's here. Because it's early morning.

Dub Narcotic Studio!!!! But, also nobody's here.
ここが伝説のDub Narcotic Sound System (D.N.S.S.)の収録が行われたスタジオです！！

Olympiaには町のあちこちにKマークがありました。カフェにも、レコード屋にも、楽器店にも。。

フェリーの上を自由に飛ぶ。

そして、フェリーのエレベーターの中にはObey初期ステッカーが。

I got to Seattle!!!!

Jesse LeDoux is not only my best friend but also a great artist!
He guided the Grunge tour in Seattle for me.
Jesse君は７年間もの間SubPopレコードのアートディレクターとして勤務していた人です。そんな彼がマニアックなグランジサイトに案内してくれます！

His Kid Robot was amazing!

Right now, I have 5 kinds.

これが、当時「SUB POP RECORDS」があったビル「Terminal Sales Building」です！

ここのトップの窓が３個見えるフロアが当初「SUB POP RECORDS」が最初に借りた場所です。その後、規模が大きくなり7Fの広いフロアに移ったらしいです。ちなみに、向いの「Virginia Inn」のカフェで初めてNirvanaがこのレコードレーベルと契約した場所みたいです。その時のことは「病んだ魂」にて高校生の時に読んでいたので、少し興奮。。

そして、その後このビルの１Fにオフィスが引っ越したそうです。今はレストランになっています。Jesse君いわく、１Fなので観光客やコアなファンがやってきては、外から自分のモニタを覗き見されて、とても仕事ができる環境じゃなかったらしいです。確かに。。　PRには最適な場所だけど、アートワークへの集中力はかなり妨害されるんでしょう。しかも、大きく「SUB POP」と書かれたサインも付いていたらしいです。

そして、現在はここのビルにオフィスがあります。前回の反省を踏まえてか、一切のサインやPRが無いため誰にもここが「SUB POP」とは分からなそう。ただ、フロアを示す紙が貼られていました。

そして、苦肉にも僕のリサーチが正しければ、現在の「SUB POP」が入ってるビルの１FはNIRVANAがゲフィン・レコードに接待を受けていたであろうレストランでした。。

ちなみにここが当時SUB POP MEGA STOREがあった場所です。今はオシャレキッズ屋さんになってました。

このトロールの前でKurtは雨宿りをしたのか、何日か野宿をしたのか、確かでは無いが、彼がここに来た事は確からしいです。

ここが伝説のスタジオ「Reciprocal Recording」があった場所です！！ここで、ブリーチのレコーディングが行われました。

90'sの伝説的なライブハウスの紹介です！

ここ「MOORE」はPearl Jam の Even Flow のビデオでエディが壁をつたって、最後にダイブした、あのライブをやった場所です！今でも時々シークレットギグをここでやるそうです。

これら、90年代を代表するライブハウスを横目に。。

クロコダイルカフェです！！

そして、ここが伝説のOKホテルです。初めて公の場所で「Smells Like Teen Spirit」が演奏された場所です！！まだ、曲は未完成なのか。。歌詞もリフも所々ちがっていました。

そして、Meganeもちゃっかり置いてます！

Kurtが自殺した家。

彼の最後の家はビバリーヒルズのような場所にあり、湖を見下ろすように建てられていた。ジェス君に「これは本当に良い家だね！」って最初に言ってしまうくらいの良い家でした。
自殺現場となったガレージは既に取り壊されていた。今は誰かがこの伝説の家に住んでいるらしい。何の先入観も無しに考えても、付近の豪邸に比べて、かなりいい感じでオシャレです。

それにしても、良い家です。あの、Aberdeenのボロアパートから数年後にはここに住んで、そして、死んでしまう。
まあ、ここに来た３０代前半の男は誰でも色々考えてしまうわけです。
隣には公園のような広場があり、そこにベンチがあります。僕のようなモヤモヤしてしまった人はこのベンチにメッセージを書くしか方法が無いらしく、皆ついつい色々書いて行くのでしょう。僕はそんなダサイことはしたくないと思いきや、ジェス君がベンチの上に転がってた油性ペンを発見してしまい。「書くか」ってことになり、一筆入魂したところ、ペンが壊れていて何も書けませんでした。まあ、ひと安心でしたね。

このあと、モヤモヤを抱えたままジェス君に誘われて湖に行きました。そして、２人で湖にダイブ！「ダイブ！ダイブ ウィズ ミー！！」って感じです。湖水で体を清めて、今回のGrunge Tourはこれで終わりです。
僕の思春期や十代や青春もやっと成仏できた気がしました！

BwanaはPortlandでGrass Hutという、ギャラリーとZine等を扱うお店のオーナーであり、アーティストでもあります。もちろん僕の友達でもあります。Grass HutではMegane-Zineも置いてもらっています！
彼は高円寺のThrashout にて９月１２日にエキシビジョンを行います。東京にいる人はみんな彼に会いに行ってください！！良いひとですので。。
