ロサンジェルスはメルローズ・アベニューの中心にあるモンキー・キング（Munky King）では、個性的なアート・フィギュアを中心にアート・ブックやTシャツ等を販売する傍ら、関連するアーティストの展示も店内で行われている。今回のイベント「ファンキース：カスタム・アート・ショー＆チャリティ・イベント」はこのモンキー・キングで2008年9月26日に開催された。

地階のダウンタウンのごちゃごちゃからは想像ができない天国です！
クリスティーナやジェリーにも久しぶりに会えて嬉しかったです。
２０ページからなる簡単なものですがMegane-Zineを発行します。
アメリカを代表する６人のビッグアーティストも企画に賛同！
アメリカではアートを買うという習慣があります。そして、家にはアートを飾る大きな壁が存在しています。小さなギャラリーでも驚くほど有名なアーティストが展示をしています。そして、その作品のほとんどが売れていきます。もちろん、なかには無名なアーティストも沢山います。でも、無名だからといって売れないという事情はアメリカにはありません。良いモノであればその経歴や実績を問わず支持されています。
日本にも沢山の若いアーティストがいます。しかし、日本にはアートを飾るほどの十分な壁があるでしょうか？彼らの作品が本当に良いモノと言えるならば、アメリカと言うハードルを早く突破してもらい、活躍の場を広げてもらいたいのです。
「Megane-Zine」はそんな日本の若手アーティストによるポートフォリオでもあります。定期的に発行されるこの本には毎回素晴らしい日本の若手アーティストの作品が並ぶことになります。そして、これらの作品は必ずアメリカの市場にも浸透することだと確信しています。
世間の「お眼鏡にかなうように」と名付けられた「Megane-Zine」、もう１つは発行者がメガネをかけていることからも由来しています。Zine（ジン）というのは日本ではあまり馴染みが無いですが、主に自主制作によるアート本のことであり、アメリカではストリート・アートの上等手段として一般に広く知られているものです。中にはコミックであったり、白黒コピーを重ねたものであったりと内容は様々です。
The 1st "Megane Zine" is issued. I know a lot of young Japanese artists whose work is very good. I want to introduce them to The United States, so I will publish a lot of their works in my magazine, "Megane Zine." The 1st Megane Zine is completed. I want to show it to you. It contains art works of up-coming Japanese Artists. 6 major artists from the USA are also participating. "Megane Zine" is kind of portfolio of young and up-coming Japanese artists. This zine will be published regularly and will show great work of them. I named this zine as "Megane - zine" hoping that people will focus on this magazine because Megane means glasses in Japanese.

2005年よりCaliforinia,LagunaBeachのTheSurfGalleryにて作品の展示を開始。翌年よりTheSurfGallery主催のArtShow"TheHappening"に参加し、NewYork Sydney Tokyo London Paris で作品を発表。2008年にHonoluluで個展を開催、2009年にはBrasilのSantosSurfMuseumnにてパーマネントコレクションに選ばれるなど国際的に活動の幅を広げている。
毎年初夏に開催されるTheGreenroomFestivalには2007年より参加し、2009年はメインビジュアルも手がけている。
「６人のビッグアーティストからのメッセージ (Massages from big artists)」
今回はオプションとして、StarGraphicsと関わりのあるアメリカ出身のビッグアーティスト達からの、日本の若手アーティストに向けた激励のメッセージをもらい、そのメッセージを「Megane-Zine」の裏表紙にプリントしています。事実上、この本１冊で日本の若いアーティストとアメリカのビッグアーティストとを繋ぐことができたと確信しています。
I was given short, written messages of encouragement to these young artists by famous American artists. Then, I printed their messages in the 1st Megane Zine.

言わずと知れた、アメリカ西海岸の巨匠。X-girlのロゴやイラストは最も有名な彼の作品の１つである。現在でも世界の若者に向けて映像作品を中心とするアート活動には絶大な人気と影響力を及ぼしています。映画「Beautiful Losers」にも出演している。

カウズ（KAWS）
ニューヨークを拠点とするグラフィティ・アーティストの大御所。シンプソンズやスポンジ・ボブの目が「X」になっている作品は誰でも１度は見たことがあるのでは？自身のブランド「オリジナル・フェイク」は世界規模で支持されています。

レイモンド・ペティボン（Raymond Pettibon）
ロサンジェルスを代表する美術館「MOCA（Museum of Contemporary Art）」にもその作品が並ぶヴェニス出身の大物アーティスト。ロックバンド「ブラック・フラッグ」や「ソニック・ユース」のジャケットにおけるアートワークは世代を超えて世界で愛されつづけています。

エド・テンプルトン（Ed Templeton）
プロスケーターとして「Emerica」のライダーであると共に、同社のアートディレクターも務めている。また、1993年には自身のスケートボード・カンパニー「TOY MACHINE」を設立し、1995年マイク・ミルズによるドキュメンタリー短編映画「Deformer」にて大々的に彼のライフ・ワークが紹介された。映画「Beautiful Losers」にも出演している米西海岸の気鋭アーティスト。

ジョン・マッケンブリッジ（John McCambridge）
ニューヨーク、サンフランシスコ、ロサンジェルスと店舗を展開している、注目のサーフショップ「MOLLUSK」のオーナーでもあり、自身もグラフィック・アーティストとして活躍している。今後、東京進出の噂もありますが、真相はつかめていません。

アルマ・アレン（Alma Allen）
元もとはスポンサーが付くほどのスケーターだったという経歴を持ち、現在カリフォルニアははジョシュアツリーを拠点に彫刻家として活躍中。日本でも人気がある彼の作品はプレイマウンテンにて取り扱いがあります。

２００９年５月３０日（土）ロサンジェルスはダウンタウンにあるセレクトショップ「MOUMENTS」にて、Megane-Zineのリリースパーティが開催しされました。Megane-Zineは日本の若いアーティストをアメリカに紹介するためにStarGraphicsより発行されたジーンです。２０ページからなる第一号には長場雄、穴薪ペインティング、花井祐介の３名のグラフィック作品が紹介されています。今回のリリースパーティに合わせ、新作を含むこの３組によるグループ展「Megane-Exhibition」も同時開催されました。また、会場にはフランス人音楽ユニット「Le Branche」によるライブパフォーマンスなど様々なアーティストとの交流の場ともなり、感度の高いLAの若者から、アート好きな大人まで来場者は３００人を超えパーティは深夜までつづき、大きな盛り上がりを見せていました。また、同店では作品の展示販売を会期終了後も引き続き継続する予定ですので、ロサンジェルスに来た際にはいつでも見れるとのことです。

Select shop "MONUMENTS" which is placed in down town of LA had the release party of the Megane-Zine on 30th of May.
It seems like there was lots going on in this opening. The exhibition of the new work by three artists include Yu Nagaba, Anamachy Painting, and Yusuke Hanai was there. Also there was a live performance played by french musician unit "Le Branche" and the space became place to come for artist to discuss, young LA kids, for those who love art to hung around and went on till midnight. People can drop by to see this show after the 7th of June!
I love his works. David is one of great artist in NY. When I visited him, He's still painting on the wall. His art show was opened at the New Image Art Gallery. It's so cool! I posted +81, please check it out.

About the exhibition:
Artist statement:
I am interested in hidden possibilities. I believe that the powerful and the great can fall apart in an instant, and that the small and the weak are capable of having extraordinary and almost threatening power. I only paint the pattern of the gold fish and its appearance seems to lack something. I express fragility or an existence which includes possibility, incompletion, and imperfection.’Goldfish might be seen as boring creatures, artificially created to please the human eye but I believe their charm lies in their moving sense. They jump and dance around. Even when I feel life is flat and it looks like I don’t stand a chance, I always like to think that things might change when one holds a positive power. I would at least like to realize that I am trying.
About the Artist:
Takehiro Yoshimitsu, born in 1978 in Kanagawa Japan has had numerous exhibitions in Japan but will be shown for the first time in Hong Kong with this cute little exhibition called ‘Flatdance’. Stage 1 will turn into a large fishbowl where the visitor can become part of the installation, the goldfish dancing and swimming around him. Stage 1 is located at the G/F of the industrial builing in Fotan that also houses Blue Lotus Gallery and many aritst studio’s. The location enhances the idea of the exhibition that beautiful creatures and things might come out of isolation and imperfect situations.
The artist will be present on the opening.

As one of the most unique art space situated in Central Hong Kong,
MADHOUSE is dedicated to uplift and promote the Contemporary
Art Scene here in Asia. For Summer 2009, Madhouse is pleased
to exhibit a special art project, "BLOOM" to the HongKong audiences!
People can easily relate “Bloom” with aroma and fragrance. In order
to enhance the beauty of the artworks and to express the exhibition
theme completely, curator Shin Wong had chosen to use“Scents” as
an element to optimize the show. In doing so, Madhouse cordially
invited scent ghost “Azure” to design a special fragrance exclusively
for this art exhibition.
"Bloom" as quoted by the curator, " is usually referred to as describing
the aesthetic experience of one or more flowers on a flowering plant.
For this exhibition, it is a metaphor for young artists at the blooming
peak of their time. The concept of the exhibition is to create a sweet,
sentimental and sophisticated feeling to the viewers who come to the
exhibition. In addition to enhancing these beautiful artworks, "scents"
also play an important role in a space.” This theme well matches with
the vision of Azure to enrich consumerʼs experience through the
stimulation of senses.
The exhibition will be showing brand new artworks by four top emerging
artists from regional Asia. At the same time, the viewers will be able to
experience a specially formulated fragrance by Azure, exclusively for
MADHOUSE. The “Bloom” fragrance has also been made into perfume
candles, which will be available for Art lovers to collect during the
exhibition time – limited editions only.
"Bloom" will be showing in MADHOUSE from 15th of August ~ 5th of September.

Megane Zineの第２弾がようやく完成しました！！今回は８名の日本の若いアーティストに加え、エド・テンプルトンにも全面的に参加してもらえました。この１冊で日本とアメリカをアートで繋いでいます！！
２０１０年１月９日（土）ロサンジェルスはギャラリーHVW8(ヘビーウェイト)にてリリースパーティとMegane展を行います。今回参加のアーティスト達に加えてエド・テンプルトンの新作も展示しますので、LA近郊にいる方は是非来てください！！各アーティスト達も展示会場に駆けつけますので！！
We're happy to announce the completion of the second issue of Megane Zine. Megane Zine is published regularly and introduces artwork of young and up-coming Japanese artists to the United States. "Megane" means "Glasses" in Japanese and focuses on the inspired achievements of these fantastic artists.

Clare Crespo came to the Heath LA gallery. She served a crocheted Mardi Gras feast on Heath dinnerware - Seafood Gumbo, Beignets and cafe au lait, King cake, Catfish poboy, Oysters on the half shell, Soft shell crab, Shrimp cocktail, Salad and Ham. Those were so cute!!
Clare Crespo による毛糸でつくられたご馳走がLAのHeathにてお披露目だった！それらは、とてもかわいかった。。
Adam SilvermanにLouise、あとはFamilyのDavidにMikeMillsまで来ていて予想外にパーティは盛り上がっていた！！娘はMikeとの初対面に少々困惑気味！？だったけど、毛糸のご馳走を見るのは大好きだったようです。
Adamは明日の朝には日本に行くそうです！そして２月１３日からはPlaymountainで展示をスタート！僕も行きたかったです！！

My Freedamn / Rin Tanakaさん主催のVintage Heads達へのイベント「Inspiration Vol.1」がSanta Monicaにて開催されました！
I visit a special event, Inspiration Vol.1, which was organized by Rin Tanaka. So many vintage heads showed up!
いつも大変お世話になっております。皆川社長とNaoさんにまたまたお誘いいただき、この記念すべきイベントに見事潜入できました！嬉しかったです！！
会場はまさにロッカ・ビリーな感じでしたが、まさかのサーフ・アート集団の出展もあり、仲間達に出会えた気分で少しほっとしてしまいました。。
今回が初対面となったPalm Graphicsの豊田弘治さん。
まさかここでお会いできるとは思わず、凄く感激！！
その脇を固めていたのが、Meganeでもお世話になっているSurfindianのChrisにMasaさん。
こういうイベントに知り合いがいてくれるのは何より嬉しいですね！
そして、同じくブースを出していたAndy Davisとも再会し、色々お話ができました！
またまた、ブース展開中のTyler WarrenやJoel Tudorとも会えた。
そして、ふらっと訪れて来たのはGeoff McFetridgeでした。久しぶりに会えてこれまた嬉しかったです。
はたまた、Dog TownからはJeff HoやRayも来ていました。
Blendsのタクさんともばったり、HVW8のMAXとも。。
なので、個人的にこのイベントは非常に濃かったです。

One day, I have found a fabric which had a theme of a fairy tale.
It was printed on some happy scene of a fairy tale.
The two kids hung out in a forest and looked very happy.
I could see this textile on the fabric which showed a happy scene printing a repeat.
The happy scene is only a surface impression because it was a famous fairy tale which a candy house appeared.
I know there were not only a dangerous situation but also an ugly witch around them.
In this exhibition's theme, the fabric and fairy tale gave an impression to me.
The character, the Mr. Froggie, which I created will act on my painting works that looks so happy but actually it is an unhappy theme.
It will show the Mr. Froggie's repetitive, smiley faces in my painting works.
He will look so happy but you will guess an unhappy situation coming to him soon.

Yu was born in 1976. He was graduated from Tokyo Zokei University.
He works with the Design Tshirts Store Graniph and he creates design works for TV show, advertising and more.
The Mr. Froggie whom he created appears in Japanese art seen.

日本の若いアーティストの作品を世に広めるべく発行している「Megane Zine」参加の日本人アーティスト８組に加え、米西海岸からジェフ・マクフェトリッジ（Geoff McFetridge）、エド・テンプルトン（Ed Templeton）、ジェシィ・レデュー（Jesse LeDoux）、タイラー・ウォレン（Tyler Warren）も参加のグループ展「Megane Exhibition and LA Junction」を東京、池尻のギャラリー「PUBLIC/IMAGE.3D」にて２０１０年６月１８日より開催します。
また、現在LAを中心に最も活発なアートシーンをうち出しているギャラリーやブックストア等によるポップアップショップも同時出展します。ウーガ・ブーガ（Ooga Booga）からはレイモンド・ペティボン（Raymond Pettibon）のZine、９０年代オリンピア「Kレコード」の伝説的ミュージシャン、カルビン・ジョンソン（Calvin Johnson）によるコンピレーション・カセットテープ等を展示販売。その他、ジャイアント・ロボット（Giant Robot）、サーフィンディアン（Surfindian）、ダブラブ（Dublab）、ヘビー・ウェイト（HVW8）からも貴重なアイテム達を出展します。

カリフォルニア州ダナ・ポイント出身。アーティストの多い家系に産まれ、油絵家の叔父に幼い頃からインスパイアされながら育つ。若干２４歳にして現在、世界中から彼の作品への評価が高まっている。自身もサーファーで、様々なサーフ・ブランドとのコラボレーション・ワークをはじめ、その他、各地でのエキシビジョンも積極的に開催。

2002年、愛知産業大学、産業デザイン学科を卒業。デザイン事務所に就職。2003年、同社退職後、イラストレーターとして活動。2005年、拠点を東京に移すために上京。2006年 「SHIFT 2007 カレンダーコンペ」入賞。2007年、 「Adobe スゴロク Awards 2007」Illustrator賞受賞。現在、あらゆる媒体にて活動中。

2005年よりCaliforinia,LagunaBeachのTheSurfGalleryにて作品の展示を開始。翌年よりTheSurfGallery主催のArtShow"TheHappenig"に参加し、NewYork Sydney Tokyo London Paris で作品を発表。2008年にHonoluluで個展、2009年にはBrasilのSantosSurfMuseumnにてパーマネントコレクションに選ばれるなど国際的に活動の幅を広げている。毎年初夏に開催されるTheGreenroomFestivalには2007年より参加し、2009年はメインビジュアルも手がけている。

78年生まれ。02年東京造形大学美術学部絵画卒業。
04年穴薪ペインティングを共同設立、ディレクターとして数々のエキシビジョン、デザインワークを経て、09年11月独立。
アパレルブランドにデザインワークを提供や、ロゴマークやキャラクターデザインなど幅広く活動している。

1982年京都生まれ。'07年京都造形芸術大学大学院修了。受賞歴に、'05年 「ARTBEAT KYOTO 2005」グランプリ、伊藤桂司選受賞 「第5回21世紀アジアデザインコンペ」準大賞受賞。'06年「AMUSEARTJAM 2006 in Kyoto 5th ANNIVERSARY」審査員特別賞受賞。'07年 「京都造形芸術大学大学院修了制作展」混沌賞受賞など。数々のグループ展やアートフェアに出展するほか、'09年、個展「私は強い、お前は弱い」を開催。「よむ花椿」「真夜中」にアートワーク掲載、『アーティストチェア by graf + 10 Artists』 参加。'10年、オランダを皮切りに、アメリカ、台湾などのグループ展に参加など国際的に活躍している。

1981年東京生まれ。Lyの眼の前に広がる世界を黒と白で絵を描くモノクローム・アーティスト。
"生き物"と総称されたDIK(男性器)な生き物やもじゃもじゃで角の生えたモンスター、兎の少年などを不思議な生き物たちを描いている。Lyの絵に登場する生き物は、眼に見えそうであったり、Lyの夢にたびたびでてくる者たちで、単に、かわいいだけでなく、そこにはタブーであったり、見てはいけないもの、言ってはいけないことなどをLyの描く"DIKくん"を中心とする生き物たちは表現している
